Purpose of This Log
This page provides a centralized public record of substantive corrections, clarifications, editor’s notes, retractions, and significant post publication updates made to Data Watchdog content.
It supplements any correction or update notice displayed directly on the affected article.
Routine spelling, punctuation, formatting, broken link, or minor style corrections that do not alter meaning may be made without a separate entry in this log.
An entry is recorded when a change materially affects a fact, quotation, attribution, number, headline, image, conclusion, disclosure, fairness issue, or a reader’s understanding of the published material.
Correction Categories
Correction: A factual or material error has been identified and fixed.
Clarification: The original wording was not necessarily false but could reasonably have caused confusion or lacked important context.
Editor’s Note: Significant context, a dispute, unresolved evidence issue, legal development, or editorial process concern has been added to the published article.
Update: New and verified information has materially changed, expanded, or advanced the article after its original publication.
Retraction: An article or central claim is no longer sufficiently reliable to remain published in its original form and has therefore been withdrawn.
Removal Notice: Content has been removed for a legal, safety, privacy, rights, or exceptional editorial reason. Where lawful and appropriate, a notice explaining the removal is retained.
How Entries Are Written
Each correction-log entry identifies the relevant date, affected article, type of editorial action, and a concise explanation of what changed and why.
Correction notes should provide enough information for readers to understand the nature of the change without unnecessarily repeating harmful personal information or sensitive material.
Where an identified error also appeared in a headline, social media post, newsletter, image, syndicated version, or other format controlled by Data Watchdog, we will seek to correct those versions where reasonably possible.
An article’s Last Updated date does not by itself constitute a correction disclosure. Material corrections and significant changes should receive a visible explanation.

Earlier material may be subject to retrospective editorial review. Material corrections identified through such a review may be recorded in this log and, where appropriate, on the affected article pages.

Retention
Corrections Log entries are ordinarily retained as part of Data Watchdog’s historical editorial record, even where the affected article is subsequently archived, substantially revised, or removed.
A record may be limited, redacted, or handled differently where continued publication would create disproportionate legal, privacy, security, or safety harm.
The purpose of maintaining this record is to provide readers with a transparent account of substantive changes to published journalism and to preserve accountability for the publication’s editorial history.
